Translation is the mechanism of protein synthesis, whereby an mRNA triplet code sequence is converted into a polypeptide or protein by the ribosome, tRNA and other molecules.
An animated video summary of translation.
Translation consists of three basic steps, translation initiation, translation elongation and translation termination.
Translation Initiation
Translation Elongation
Translation Termination
Until recently, translation termination was not investigated well. Progress has been made just lately regarding this interesting and important step (the ending of protein synthesis) of translation. It is quite important as it serves as a way to not only end the synthesis of a protein, but to get the molecules of translation primed for another round of protein synthesis.
